I know, I know…
Yeah, so I'm a slacker when it comes to blog posts.... surprise!
Oddly enough, Facebook has been updated a little more than this site. I guess it's the ease at which I can just drop a quick one liner there. Not that I'm very good at one liners.... I think. Well, that's a topic of discussion I'm going to steer clear of right..... now!
Today is Friday and Friday is the Islamic sabbath (that means Sunday for most Westerners) so most things don't open until 2pm. It's quite nice to see a country that so strongly follows their religious ideals. While there are somethings that I don't agree with, I can see a lot of the benefits it has brought to the country. Contrary to popular opinion Women actually have a very important role within society here, so much in fact that they are given preferential treatment in every day life. It's actually quite common to see a woman cut to the front of a queue of men, or for them to be served first. Of course there is a pecking order when it comes to the men as well, and local Emeraties are often served or spoken to first then it's us "Westerners" then Oriental guys and lastly followed by the Indians. They get it pretty rough over here. I've heard of some Indian workers living 6-8 people to a single room.
Thankfully my accommodation is much better than that. I've uploaded some pictures of my Room to Facebook and I'll be sure to add them to the gallery here as well. I've been a little slack with taking pictures when I'm out and about, mostly due to the fact that some of the places I work are of such high security that I'm not permitted to bring any kind of equipment that could be used to record any images what so ever. One guy got kicked out of the company for taking a mobile phone with a built in camera into one of the facilities. Needless to say, I'll not be making the same mistake!
Today reached around 40 degrees C, very hot indeed. I actually decided to walk from my Hotel to the Abu Dhabi Mall. I've built a little Google Map that shows some of the places I've been etc. I'll update it with more as I get out and about!
Strangely enough, I've not really experienced any "Culture Shock" yet. I guess it has something to do with how much I've moved around in my lifetime, I've kinda gotten used to being in a strange place with strange stuff going on, so I take it for granted!
Speaking of strangeness, I think I'm starting to go slightly crazy.... I've not played a decent video game in two weeks and I didn't really notice.... I'm starting to get the urge to go out and buy a PS3 to play on, but when I start thinking about buying one I start thinking "do I really need it?" I think I'm starting to get old....
Right, off to do other things now. I'll try and keep this place dusted off and updated a little more.
Laters peeps!
