I know, I know…

Yeah, so I'm a slacker when it comes to blog posts.... surprise!

Oddly enough, Facebook has been updated a little more than this site. I guess it's the ease at which I can just drop a quick one liner there. Not that I'm very good at one liners.... I think. Well, that's a topic of discussion I'm going to steer clear of right..... now!

Today is Friday and Friday is the Islamic sabbath (that means Sunday for most Westerners) so most things don't open until 2pm. It's quite nice to see a country that so strongly follows their religious ideals. While there are somethings that I don't agree with, I can see a lot of the benefits it has brought to the country. Contrary to popular opinion Women actually have a very important role within society here, so much in fact that they are given preferential treatment in every day life. It's actually quite common to see a woman cut to the front of a queue of men, or for them to be served first. Of course there is a pecking order when it comes to the men as well, and local Emeraties are often served or spoken to first then it's us "Westerners" then Oriental guys and lastly followed by the Indians. They get it pretty rough over here. I've heard of some Indian workers living 6-8 people to a single room.

Thankfully my accommodation is much better than that. I've uploaded some pictures of my Room to Facebook and I'll be sure to add them to the gallery here as well. I've been a little slack with taking pictures when I'm out and about, mostly due to the fact that some of the places I work are of such high security that I'm not permitted to bring any kind of equipment that could be used to record any images what so ever. One guy got kicked out of the company for taking a mobile phone with a built in camera into one of the facilities. Needless to say, I'll not be making the same mistake!

Today reached around 40 degrees C, very hot indeed. I actually decided to walk from my Hotel to the Abu Dhabi Mall. I've built a little Google Map that shows some of the places I've been etc. I'll update it with more as I get out and about!

Strangely enough, I've not really experienced any "Culture Shock" yet. I guess it has something to do with how much I've moved around in my lifetime, I've kinda gotten used to being in a strange place with strange stuff going on, so I take it for granted!

Speaking of strangeness, I think I'm starting to go slightly crazy.... I've not played a decent video game in two weeks and I didn't really notice.... I'm starting to get the urge to go out and buy a PS3 to play on, but when I start thinking about buying one I start thinking "do I really need it?" I think I'm starting to get old....

Right, off to do other things now. I'll try and keep this place dusted off and updated a little more.

Laters peeps!

So….

I know I was supposed to put up a big Blog Post yesterday with pictures and stuff. For those of you with access to Facebook you'll have seen that I've uploaded a few images there.

So, here's the deal, when I get back into the Hotel this evening I'll write up a nice post with thoughts and feelings on being out here in the UAE. I'll also include some pictures for you as well.

Also guys, don't forget you can comment on these posts as well! (Facebook intergration works with those, so you can just click the "Logon with Facebook" button on the right)

Ok, back to "work" ;)

Blog post coming tomorrow!

Hey guys, just a quick update.

I'm planning on getting out to one of the bigger new Malls tomorrow. This should mean I can get myself a digital camera! :) Once I have one of those I'm going to take quite a few pictures, there is plenty of awesome stuff to see....

On another note, I'm not starving to death, thankfully the majority of food I've seen over here has been edible, so that's great news!

Anyways, getting ready for work, off to the shiny shiny datacentre!

Airport

So, I'm at the airport. My Gate opens at 8:20 and my bags are all checked in.

No going back now!

Also, don't forget, I don't have a mobile phone currently (my UK one is being left behind) so the best way to get in touch with me will be via e-mail.

Also, I don't have a camera yet, but I plan to buy one first thing. Well second thing, right after sun cream!

Last day

Well, today is my last full day in the UK for the next few months.

Feels pretty odd heading out to an new country and all. But I've got most of my packing done, got my documents together, pretty much got everything sorted.

Ok, I think the freak out will be starting soon....

Limbo

So today I'm no longer working for Unite. It's a pretty odd feeling, not going into work and seeing all the people I used to work with. Speaking about them all in past tense is a bit wierd as well... But anyway, today and tomorrow I'll be packing up what I can of my life and belongings and getting read to ship out to the Desert.

I'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone at Unite for making my last few days there awesome. I'll never forget you guys.

Right, now where is that suitcase....
